The Buddha Dordenma statue stands at an impressive 51.5 meters tall and is made of solid bronze gilded in gold. It was constructed to fulfill an ancient prophecy dating back to the 8th century, which stated that a giant statue would be built in this region to bestow blessings, peace, and happiness on the whole world. The project was completed in 2015 to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Fourth King.
Hidden inside the giant Buddha are 125,000 smaller Buddha statues, each also gilded in gold. The site is located on the ruins of the palace of Kuensel Phodrang, the 13th Druk Desi. Today, the area is surrounded by the Nature Park, offering hiking trails and a massive courtyard that serves as a popular spot for both morning meditation and evening photography as the sun sets over the valley.
