<p>The Institute was established in 1971 to ensure that Bhutan’s unique cultural heritage remains alive in the modern age. Students undergo rigorous training lasting anywhere from four to six years to master the "Zorig Chusum," which includes calligraphy, smithing, weaving, and sculpting. This education is vital for the continued restoration of the country's many dzongs and monasteries.</p> <p><br /> A visit to the school offers a rare behind-the-scenes look at the precision and patience required for Bhutanese art. You can walk through the classrooms and watch as students use natural mineral pigments to paint intricate thangkas or use traditional chisels to carve protective deities into cedar wood. The onsite showroom allows you to purchase authentic student work, ensuring that the skills of these young artisans are supported and carried into the future.</p>
