Punakha lies in the low altitude of 1220m and the weather is favorable for growing fruits vegetables and food grains. It was the former Capital of Bhutan.

Punakha Dzong
Punakha Dzong was built in 1637 and was the seat of the government when Punakha was the capital. It lies at the confluence of the Mo Chu (female river) and the Pho Chu (male river). Punakha Dzong still serves as the winter residence of the Central Monk Body.The Dzong was damaged by fire and glacial floods over the years but has been reconstructed with several new temples. |
